He received his BA degree from Sewanee: The University Of The South in 1969, and a Masters degree from Tulane University in 1976. During spring of 2018, Robert Ivy received the Noel Polk Lifetime Achievement Award, given by the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters. This award is given to presently active Mississippi connected art patrons. He is the first architect to ever receive the prestigious award. Robert Ivy joins other trailblazers such as Morgan Freeman, Shelby Foote, Leontyne Price and Eudora Welty to name a few. MIAL President Nancy LaForge stated that there is no one else from Mississippi like Robert Ivy when it comes to making architecture more accessible to the general public. AIA President Carl Elefante mentioned that Robert is a worthy ambassador for the profession of architecture. He has a stupendous resume that has earned him this high accolade, amongst countless other recognitions over his lengthy career.
